Laree wins 50 Books in ABC competition

Laree has won the 50 Books You Can't Put Down by writing the last 100 words of a great (as yet unwritten) Australian novel, a competition run by the local ABC. Congratulations! She will be busy reading all those unputdownable books. She was interviewed on ABC radio and they asked her to do a book review too.

50 Books You Can't Put Down

There is a neat little freebie on the counter at the Library, as part of Books Alive. 50 Books You Can't Put Down. It's well presented with a book on each page. Check it out.

Welcome to our new president Allison.
Sandy is now vice president, Sarah is still treasurer, Diane is continuing as secretary and Lorraine and I are on the committee. Hope you all enjoy your roles.
We have been having meetings about next year's WriteFest to try to make it better than ever, and and look at sourcing corporate sponsorship.
Make sure you read our newsletter, Accents.
Thanks again to Elizabeth for a Pumpkin Island (Rockhampton) masterclass article. It sounds so good that more of us will need to make it a goal for next year.
I have an article inside where people are giving their ideas about why we might read material that is dark and challenging. Let me know your opinion too.
A few of us went to a free Bush Poetry Workshop with Melanie Hall run by the Library as part of the Bundy Muster. It was fun and we all learnt something new. There were some useful tips for memorising poetry that I have included in Accents. Thanks to Suzy Carcary for sharing her ideas with us and allowing us to print them in Accents.
Hugh Lunn will be talking at the library on 11 August 6.30 – 8.00 pm, wine and food to follow. Book at the counter.

2 Queensland Poetry Festival Comes to Budaberg

Some of us have a taste for poetry. Some of us want more than just a taste. That's what Queensland Poetry Festival is giving us in Brisbane on August 22, 23 and 24. Most of the weekend of poetry is free, but there are $20 workshops on Friday which are filling up fast. To know more go to www.queenslandpoetryfestival.com.
If you can't make it from Bundy to Brisbane over the weekend, then you might be pleased to know that the Queensland Poetry Festival is also coming to Bundaberg in September. For full details click here
